About Me
My name is Emma Hanson
Hi! I’m Emma and I create all kinds of entertainment content ranging from music videos, to theatre shows.
I was a very creative child and found my love for performing and directing at a very young age. I grew up performing in local community theatre productions and choirs, making youtube and parody music videos with my friends at sleepovers. After graduating high school I studied for four years at the Queensland University of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Drama), taking part in film, music and management units on the side.
I’m an interdisciplinary artist, creating theatre and film for everyone to experience. As a Director, Producer and Stage Manager specialising in technical theatre and magical realism, I create works accessible to the wider community by providing multiple viewing options for audiences to enjoy.
I believe that the stage is a place to freely explore emotions and bigger conversations, inspiring creatives, and audiences to question and create.

What I Do

Director
When directing for theatre, I believe that all the magic happens when you get up and mess around with the work. Trust your actors, and your other creatives. Sitting down with a piece of paper can only get you 10% of the way. When directing for camera, I like to communicate my vision in various different modes, ensuring everyone involved shares the same ideas and passion for the piece across all stages of the production.

Designer
As A Producer and Director, I often find myself in the designer role by default. When imagining a work, i always see things visually first, which means designing comes naturally to me. If you need a Set Designer, Lighting Designer, Costumer Designer or even Sound Designer, I'm your girl!

Producer
I believe a rewarding production is made by adapting our own methodologies to suit the environment around us, whether that be due to the genre of the work or to align with other creatives a part of the team. When producing I like to focus on this, accomodating my collaborators by providing a concrete structure for ideas to be explored and creativity to blossom.

Performer
It's rare that i get to perform as I'm always running around backstage, however I'm overjoyed when i get the opportunity to.
Like most, I began my career in the Arts in roles such as Velma from Hairspray, Scarecrow in Wizard Of Oz, Glinda in Wicked, and many original roles.

Stage Manager
I've always been a Stage Manager and I always will be. Taking an existing work and bringing it to life is always my favourite part of the process. From stage managing several theatre productions over the last eight years, I have learnt various different approaches when developing a work, both through self reflection and observing other creatives.

Technical Production
I am currently employed at several Brisbane theatres as a casual/contract Lightning Technician. From tutoring and operating for JMC Academy to working at LaBoite Theatre, Queensland Theatre & Backdock Arts, you're bound to run into me somewhere!
